Empirical Approach Based Rainfall Threshold Estimation for Landslide Occurrence in Cox's Bazar District, Bangladesh

چکیده
Rainfall threshold estimation empirically to forecast rainfall-induced landslide events provides crucial information reduce impact. The triggered by rainfall are common in Cox's Bazar district, especially during the monsoon season. Geological settings and climatic conditions make this area more landslide-prone leading huge losses of lives property. Establishing an effective early warning system based on a value has become top priority save people's lives, economy, environment. We have employed three empirical approaches estimate thresholds. Intensity-Duration, Event-Duration, Antecedent thresholds most conventional methods identify lowest amount that triggers landslide. Intensity-Duration (ID) Event-Duration (ED) equations calculated using simple power-law curve. For 5% exceedance probability level ID defined as: T5: I = 3.63 D-0.1313 & ED as E D0.8687. Similarly, for 1% T1: I= 2.78 D0.8687 ED. Both minimum equations. Since line delineates lower end all observed data points events, it is considered Bazar. According equation, mean intensity 2.39 mmh-1 or 57.4 mm cumulated 24 hours required initiate event. Whereas, longer duration such 120h, 1.93 continuous 232 appears be sufficient initiation. There less than chance below limit. In context 3-day 5-day antecedent thresholds, we found 130 72 h (3-day) 210 120 (5-day) could compared our with few global local estimates. Estimating the Empirical Probability of Submarine Landslide Occurrence
The empirical probability for the occurrence of submarine landslides at a given location can be estimated from age dates of past landslides. In this study, tools developed to estimate earthquake probability from paleoseismic horizons are adapted to estimate submarine landslide probability. In both types of estimates, one has to account for the uncertainty associated with age-dating individual e...
متن کاملEstimation of rainfall threshold and its use in landslide hazard mapping of Kuala Lumpur metropolitan and surrounding areas
This paper presents rainfall-induced landslide thresholds and predicts landslide hazard in Kuala Lumpur metropolitan city and surrounding areas. Landslide events from 2000 to 2012 were collected. The long and short antecedent rainfall days were prepared for landslide and non-landslide days simultaneously. First, threshold analysis was conducted by using data obtained from rainfall stations loca...
متن کاملThree case definitions of malaria and their effect on diagnosis, treatment and surveillance in Cox's Bazar district, Bangladesh.
In countries where malaria is endemic, routine blood slide examinations remain the major source of data for the public health surveillance system. This approach has become inadequate, however, as the public health emphasis has changed from surveillance of laboratory-confirmed malaria infections to the early detection and treatment of the disease. As a result, it has been advocated that the info...

Background and objective: Landslide susceptibility zoning using different methods is one of the landslide management strategies. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the landslides susceptibility in the Bar watershed in Khorasan Razavi province using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. Method: First, the landslide layer of the area was corrected through field visits and Google Earth...
